Vacancy Studies - Experiments and Strategic Interventions in Architecture
Author(s): Erik Rietveld
'Vacancy Studies' provides the world of architecture with an optimistic perspective on the temporary reuse of vacancy. Bunkers, forts, churches, castles, hospitals, water-towers, post offices, prisons, palaces and airports are vacant. According to RAAAF (Rietveld Architecture-Art-Affordances) these public and government buildings offer enormous potential, the extent of which was visualised by their 'Vacant NL' installation at the 2010 Venice Architecture Biennale. This book introduces the 'strategic interventions' design approach and demonstrates new concepts and experiments.
